Let me start by saying this shelter could learn a lot from HSU (Humane Society of Utah). We came in to meet a couple of dogs whose pictures stood out to us on the website. Upon arrival, the woman at the counter was extremely rude and just said, “Do you have an appointment?” She couldn't even be bothered to look up from her computer when she asked. I said no, and explained why we were there to which she retorted, “Yeah well sorry but you can't go back to see the dogs. Studies have shown that it causes them too much stress when people are coming and going so if you want to meet one specific dog you have to make an appointment to do that.” What??? Studies have also shown that dogs who can't meet potential owners don't get adopted. No other shelter implements these rules and in fact encourage the public to come and interact with the animals. You simply can't base whether or not a dog is right for you from a picture and an empty description on a website. You need to interact with them and more often than not, you find one you weren't expecting to find and that's the biggest joy of rescuing. It's really sad because I have only been here one other time and the animals were not well taken care of. A lot of waste everywhere (many dogs were standing in it) minimal bedding, and every single dog seemed scared. I didn't leave a review then and wanted to give them another chance but this recent experience solidified my feelings about this shelter. We won't be returning which is unfortunate because we have the means to adopt another dog and wanted to. No animal deserves to stay in a dirty, cold, concrete cage without interaction. I hope they change their new policies and get some better staff for the sake of the animals. TL;DR: Go to HSU in Murray. You'll be absolutely shocked at the differences between their shelter and this one.
I had to surrender my 2 cats. The staff were very kind and patient as I was an emotional mess. Would recommend
The people who work here are so rude! The girl at the front desk was rude and aggressive towards us today. They have literally no information about any animal. I adopted two cats from here(both of them were sick) and one of them had messed …
I tried saving a dog that didn't have a home, lady said I had to do an owner surrender and come back the next day even tho he wasn't mine. My dog didn't like him so I had to take him home and call animal control. She was so incredibly rude! I wanted to work there and now I don't. They have absolutely zero compassion for animals
